Blogging: The new public relations

Making the case for visibility

From The Boston Globe:

Blogging is good for your career. A well-executed blog sets you apart as an expert in your field.

Ben Day blogged his way into a career as a high-earning software consultant while maintaining the freedom to schedule frequent jam sessions and performances as a keyboard player. Blogging gave him the opportunity to stand out enough to support the life he envisioned for himself.

"For your career, a blog is essential," says Phil van Allen, a faculty member of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

Blogging is an amazing PR tool...never really thought about it, but given the popularity of the politically-aimed blogs (Daily Koz, etc),doesn't surprise me.

Lol...don't know if MY blog's necessarily good for my career...

Blogging as a profession may be too early for anyone who can actually be there at the workplace. There are so many things that you learn from the personal (one-to-one) interaction.

Still, blogging can be used as a helping tool to assist you in achieving your goals at your job.

I keep advocating that writers, especially novelists, blog their process and writerly activities. It's a hard sell, sometimes. The writers whine, "but I just want to write", failing to realize that all writing is writing and blogging is a tremendous marketing tool, especially for writers. OK, enough redundancy.

Rose: There's a 12-step program for people like you. ;-)

Hasan: Nothing replaces personal interaction. You're absolutely right!

Georganna: We could keep repeating this message to writers until it's etched in their brains. You tell 'em, girl!
