ABC's Bob Woodruff and cameraman injured in Iraq

Woodruff undergoing surgery

ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff and his cameraman were seriously wounded today in a roadside bomb attack near Taji, Iraq, according to a statement from ABC News. ABC said Woodruff and photographer Doug Vogt have head injuries. Woodruff was undergoing surgery at the U.S. military hospital in Balad, 50 miles north of Baghdad. I heard this first thing this morning, before I was even out of bed. I hope for quick recoveries for both these men. Woodruff is one of the few reporters I still have a great deal of respect for. It would be a great loss to the journalistic community if he was no longer a part of it.

Kate, I also pray for their complete recoveries. Sixty-one journalists have been killed in Iraq since March of 2003. Let's hope that Woodruff and his cameraman, Doug Vogt, are working again soon.
