Microsoft drops support for Mac Internet Explorer

Support to end Dec. 31

Microsoft has announced it will officially end support for the Mac version of Internet Explorer (IE) browser at the end of the year. The move means that Microsoft will not issue any new security updates or patches for the software and will likely send the relatively small number of Mac IE users to alternatives. Alternatives include Apple's own Safari, or the open-source browsers Mozilla Firefox and Opera. Support for the Mac IE is slated to end Dec. 31. Microsoft will also stop offering downloads of the software at the end of January.

After embracing the Apple platform with its Mac-friendly browser version, Microsoft has been moving away from the market since mid-2003, when it announced it would stop releasing new versions of the software and would phase out all support.

As a Mac user, I have mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, damn MS and its dominion. On the other hand, the browser sucked.

LOL

Mac users of the world, unite! LOL

Goddess, I had to laugh when I read your comment. I truly understand. I work on a PC now, but my computer of choice is a Mac. Nothing beats a Mac when it comes to graphics and other creative applications. Sometimes I yell at my PC when I have difficulty getting it to do what I want.

But I try to keep it all in perspective. Ten years ago, you couldn't get Macs and PCs to communicate with each other without having converter software. What a pain that was! This was especially true for me because, like today, I handled a ton of documents each day.

I miss my Mac. (sniff sniff)

BTW, I have used the Mac version of Internet Explorer, but most of the serious Mac users I know use other browsers. I wouldn't dare use the term IE around some die-hard Mac users because I know they'd respond with a tirade of expletives!
