Kids and blogging

Online teens create, consume Web content

Some 19 percent of actively online teens create blogs and 38 percent read them; of those, 62 percent read solely friends' blogs and 36 percent read those of friends and others, according to a new report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Girls age 15 to 17 are the most active bloggers, with one-fourth of those online in that age group creating blogs, compared with 15 percent for boys of the same age.

"For young people it's about reinforcing and keeping relationships, not reading opinions of strangers," says Pew senior research specialist Amanda Lenhart.

But many more teens do more than just blog, according to the Pew study, "Teen Content Creators and Consumers," based on surveys of 1,100 U.S. teens (age 12-17). Details from ClickZ.

Happy to hear that teeners are into blogging.

If blogging could at least teach our kids the "discipline", respect for the readers and the importance of tact, I'll be happy already.

We exercise discipline in blogging???? (lol) I believe so. Words carry a lot of power, so..... exercising prudence is important.

If I had a kid, I would encourage her to go blogging too. (Note: I hereby appoint myself, and I solemnly promise to fulfill my duties as the Prima Censora of her blog- lol!)

thanks Sis, enjoy the rest of the day!

Thank you, AsianSmiles. Yeah, we bloggers have a lot of discipline! LOL

It's interesting for you to say that if you had a kid, you would encourage her to blog. I have a daughter who is a very creative writer. She is better at graphics than I will ever be. I have encouraged my daugher to blog because, in my book, she is a great communicator. However, to date, she has not shwon any interest. Maybe she would if her mother would spend less time blogging. :-)

Ah, the censor thing. I think you would make a very good Prima Censora. LOL

Thanks for stopping by.

Shirazi, does your comment mean that you support freedom of speech for teenagers?
