A couple of months ago, my husband and I traveled to Wisconsin to spend some time with my new in-laws. It was my first trip to America’s Dairyland.I’m a big-city girl, so I found the family farmhouse charming and cozy. My husband took me to his favorite place, a nearby family cottage that sits on a creek that empties into a series of larger lakes. The landscape is simply enchanting.
The visit opened up my eyes to different types of homes. I realized that house plans extend beyond the ranch homes and condos where I raised my children.
My trip to Wisconsin started me to thinking about an alternative home plan that would fit my new laid-back lifestyle. Also, my husband seems to be his happiest when he’s canoeing along the creeks and lakes of central Wisconsin. Should we decide to relocate, we might consider the many cottage plans featured on the new website recently launched by www.houseplansandmore.com. Several plans include a covered front porch, a must-have for me.
I can see it now: a cottage in central Wisconsin that sits along the water, surrounded by lots of trees and occasional deer. I could get used to that.

Now, you know why I have been in Minnesota for the past 14 years! We have 10L lake here and there are lakes in the city as well...

I would like to visit Minnesota one day. I'd prefer to visit in the summer, though. You've been a one-man tourism board for the state all these years, and believe it or not, I've been listening to you. :-)

Deb it seems that marriage suits you well. Can you imagine that just a few years ago you may have been thinking of something totally differently for your life and boom you are married, living in a new city and traveling? Girl isn't life wonderful? Merry Christmas to you and the hubby.

Believe it or not, Minnesota is at it's best during the Winter months. Buck Hill is a down hill ski slope that brags of at least one Olympic Champion (Peekaboo Street) whom grew up on Buck Hill's slopes. There are numerous locations around the state that have the greatest Winter time lodges anywhere on Earth. I don't intend to be a tourism board for the state (because they don't pay me) but I chose his state to live in, in part, because of the outdoor life available as far as hunting and fishing. Try the "Ice fishing" sometime... It will give you a whole new outlook on fishing and is nothing like summer fishing at all. Google up Minnesota Ice fishing... it a whole industry, complete with gear and "Ice Houses for fishing on a frozen lake. Wisconsin is also a state that has the same attributes as far as the great outdoors, but Minnesota has more of it.

Beautiful post! We on the left and east coast tend to dismiss the midwest--but it's a great part of the country that has countless hidden secrets, like the one you wrote.
