Hearing God's call takes on new meaning

Cell phones - the latest in spiritual connections

The new generation of phones has attracted media-savvy ministries. The 21st century now boasts "sanctuaries on the go." The Washington Post has the story.

The Washington Post article had some interesting points about Christian ministries and their cell phone use. The following was my "favorite":

"A lot of people have a hard time sitting down and reading the Bible because their attention span is short, so this might be better for them"

I don't have a cell phone and have never used one. If I had one I would be afraid of getting a message like this:

"Hello, this is Jesus. Get off your
butt and do something with the rest of your life. Have a nice day."

Tubby: LOL!! You've given me the biggest laugh of my day. Thank you for that.

I couldn't agree more with tubby's comment. I dunno, Deb, but I find the whole thing kind of creepy. I find cellphones creepy when I look at the obsessive throngs wandering around with those things stuck in their ear. I have a cellphone. I use it as a 'phone', which is rarely because I hate phones in general. They usually mean either work or bad news. I also keep it in the car for highway emergencies. I cannot fathom anybody wanting one for any other reasons. Hmm, I guess it must be a generational thing. That's even creepier.

Your friend,
Ian

One more note to Tubby: I believe God has a sense of humor, and He definitely shared it with you. :-)

Ian: I giggled when I read the term "obsessive throngs." Yes, we have LOTS of those!

I use my cell phone as a phone, also. I'm not interested in getting my inspiration from a cell phone, but it may work for some people.

Also, my eye caught that quote that Tubby mentioned about short attenion spans. I could give my own opinion on that, but I think I'd better not. I'd have to quote scripture. :-)

About phones in general: Ian, you and I are so much alike in this area! I, too, hate phones. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact that I've worked on assignment desks/city desks, where the phones never stop ringing!

I've driven my kids nuts at home because I don't have a problem with letting a call go to voicemail or the answering machine. Teengagers, on the other hand, LIVE for phones!
