My dad, on the other hand, LOVES Fox. He enjoys saturating me with Fox when I go to visit him!

I agree with you that CNN is not the news organization it used to be.

As for the rest of our discussion, I'm going to let you have the last word.Deb Sistrunk Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14072871724975222638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14769049.post-1157908889408371112006-09-10T10:21:00.000-07:002006-09-10T10:21:00.000-07:00Deb, I know that Bernard Goldberg, who worked at C...Deb, I know that Bernard Goldberg, who worked at CBS for many years, wrote a book about the liberal slant there. As I'm sure you're aware, there have been a number of reports showing that members of the national media tend to be much more liberal than the general public. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, and I understand that it will color their reporting and their selection of stories. But there should be an effort to be fair, and I honestly believe there is less and less than that.

As I've said before, I think Fox News is the worst. I don't think they make any effort to be fair, although they make some efforts to LOOK like they are. I think that's because they see themselves as a counterweight to the other networks. But I think those other networks, like CBS and CNN, have gotten worse. Maybe that's partly a reaction to Fox. The selection of stories that I watched last Thursday on CBS, and the reporting that was done on them was so anti-Bush that it was ridiculous.Dennis Fermoylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16066942564308377074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14769049.post-1157900439371325872006-09-10T08:00:00.000-07:002006-09-10T08:00:00.000-07:00Dennis: It always amazes me when I hear statement...Dennis: It always amazes me when I hear statements such as yours. I don't think any major news organization takes a particular political bent. For one thing, you have too many people working in any given newsroom, whether is it TV, radio or print (newspapers, magazines).

But let's take TV since we're talking about TV. No one person works on any given story. A TV newsroom is staffed with the following: executive producers, producers, assignment editors, news writers/associate producers, field producers, segment producer, directors, photographers, engineers, and assorted support staff. At at national network such as CBS, you'll also find researchers.

These people are as diverse politically as they are in any other facet of their lives.

I have always thought that CBS Evening News had a fine news product. I absolutely love Bob Schiefer. The problem is that CBS News has a long history of being, well, stodgy. The network hopes to attract a younger, more diverse audience with Katie at the helm.

I worked in TV and radio news for many years, so I'm not going to pretend that any news operation is totally objective. I think you can accuse news organizations of many things, but being anti-Republican or anti-Democrat is not one of them.

I encourage any viewer to do as I do if I don't like a particular news program for any reason - change the station. I also encourage people to get their news from more than one source, as you obviously do.

Also, remember that TV news is entertainment. It's show business.Deb Sistrunk Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14072871724975222638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14769049.post-1157840321313215312006-09-09T15:18:00.000-07:002006-09-09T15:18:00.000-07:00Deb, these networks are disgusting me more and mor...Deb, these networks are disgusting me more and more every time I watch them. I watched CBS with Katie Couric on Thursday night, and it was so anti-Bush that it could have been a campaign commercial for the Democratic party. Then on Friday morning, I watched good ol' Fox and Friends, and that was so anti-Democrat that it could have been a campaign commercial for the Republicans. A curse on both their houses!Dennis Fermoylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16066942564308377074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14769049.post-1157683830790052172006-09-07T19:50:00.000-07:002006-09-07T19:50:00.000-07:00Dr. Deb: I like Katie, too. After all, she was a hard news reporter and anchor long before she joined NBC's Today.Deb Sistrunk Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14072871724975222638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14769049.post-1157678971397734982006-09-07T18:29:00.000-07:002006-09-07T18:29:00.000-07:00I have been liking her thus far.
