Political humor

Jay Leno: "Vice President Joe Biden has declared that the heavy lifting is over for the year. And it's time to begin campaigning and talking about all the White House accomplishments. ... The heavy lifting might be over, but it sounds like the heavy shoveling, just beginning, ladies and gentlemen."

Jay Leno: "A website called WikiLeaks has posted 90,000 classified military documents about the war in Afghanistan. It's a huge deal. And the Pentagon is outraged. The White House is furious. And of course, British Petroleum, relieved. 'Finally, a leak that has nothing to do with us.'"

Jay Leno: "President Obama and his family have planned a vacation to the Gulf Coast of Florida on August 14th. ... I guess after looking at those poll numbers, he wants to look at retirement villages."

Creating brand recognition and goodwill

Any organization trying to raise and maintain visibility will use promotional products as part of its overall marketing campaign. This is true for start-ups as well as well-established companies.

My career has taken me to public broadcasting, commercial radio and television, universities, school districts, and a variety of nonprofit organizations. My employers never missed an opportunity to order personalized pens, shirts, bags, note pads, and other items as a way of creating brand recognition and good will.

Several years ago, I was on the management team of a new start-up, a nonprofit organization focused on education initiatives. There were many nonprofits in the city, but no one was providing specialized educational services to low-income parents. We took advantage of a unique opportunity to boast our existence and the services we offered.

Because we also offered training for parents, we needed incentive gifts to get parents in the door and keep them engaged. Custom coffee mugs were a favorite, as were writing instruments, shirts, magnets, and bags. Back-to-school events offered us an opportunity to give away backpacks. You can bet those were a bit hit.

A part of me is still a pencil and pen person, so when I see a pen or notepad that looks sharp, I try to grab it. I love collecting coffee mugs.

Before you place your order, make sure your logo will stand out and that you select colors that are eye-catching. You won’t regret it.
